Inspiring Over 10.6 MILLION people

In Brazil, this duo accomplished the extraordinary feat of planting 2 million trees over a span of 18 years, leading to the resurgence of 172 bird species, 33 mammals, 15 amphibians, 15 reptiles, and 293 plant species.

Their remarkable endeavors deserve global recognition. Allow me to introduce Lélia Wanick and Sebastião Salgado.

Motivated by their passion, the couple initiated the Terra Institute, a modest organization dedicated to reforesting the land by planting 2 million trees and revitalizing the entire forest ecosystem.

“There exists only one living being capable of converting carbon dioxide into oxygen, and that is a tree.” It is imperative that we restore our forests,” they emphasized.

Using solely indigenous plants, Lélia and Sebastião reconstructed the entire ecosystem from scratch, resulting in remarkable flourishing of the area. Their dedicated work enabled the return of diverse wildlife, ultimately safeguarding numerous endangered species.
